International Day Against Drug Abuse...

The drugs work to damage the heart along with the kidney and liver by making the body hollow from the inside. Not only this, it causes hallucinations and mental weakness as well as causes depression. Know how all types of drugs affect your nervous system.

What does the research say?

Due to drug abuse, your brain stops working properly. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) reports that the brain stem, limbic system, and cerebral cortex gets affected. The brain stem controls the functions of your daily life, including sleep, breathing, and heart rate, while the limbic system controls your emotions. The more drugs are used, the more they affect the brain stem and limbic system.

1. Dopamine

This drug neurotransmitter regulates mood as well as makes the body very active. There is a feeling of great pleasure after taking it. If dopamine is taken for a long time, then it becomes a major cause of high bp and it increases the risk of damage to the heart, kidney, and liver.

2. Serotonin

This neurotransmitter works to stabilize mood and regulate emotions, and when this overdose occurs, it is also responsible for depression.

3. Gamma-aminobutyric acid

GABA acts as a natural tranquilizer, reducing the stress response and reducing the level of anxiety as well as slowing down the functions of the central nervous system.

4. Norepinephrine

Similar to adrenaline, norepinephrine is often referred to as the "stress hormone", as it stimulates the central nervous system in response to a "fight-or-flight" response. It also maintains focus and attention while increasing the energy level, but if it is taken for a long time, it starts showing the opposite effect.
