In the recent past, india is looking forward to move to digitisation of money. However, there’s still need for cash in our hands for many purposes. ATMs have been for such thing and has been a boon to our day to day lives reducing the lengthy bank queues to withdraw money.
Rarely, there can be occurrences where an individual might get torn or damaged notes from ATM. In such cases, do not panic. All the banks are supposed to replace the damaged notes, failing to which the banks can be penalized.
To apply for fresh undamaged notes,
1. Make a formal application to the bank of whose ATM the damaged notes were withdrawn
2. Mention the date, time and location fo withdrawal of money and attach the slip as well.
3. If you do not have the slip, provide the message received for the withdrawal.
4. The banks shall exchange those damaged notes for a fresh ones.
This is a new process after a twitter user raised complaints against the bank. state bank of india commented that ‘Notes are thoroughly checked before being loaded into ATMs. However, you can get the damaged notes in rare instances exchanged from any of our branches’.
According to sbi, an individual can file a complaint to ‘https://crcf.sbi.co.in/ccf/’ Under the general banking -> Cash related category. This is valid only for state bank of india ATM however as mentioned above no banks can refuse exchange on damaged notes.
