kerala governor arif mohammad khan participated in a seminar on Uniform Civil Code (UGC) on Thursday. Here the governor made a big statement about the triple talaq law. He said in the seminar that since triple talaq was made a punishable offense in 2019, there has been a drastic decline in such cases in the Muslim community. Such cases have reduced by almost 96 percent. He said that the triple talaq law has proved to be a boon for women. This has greatly benefited women and children. He said that it is not strange that when someone seeks justice then his religion should be worshiped first.
arif mohammad khan, on behalf of the All india Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) sent feedback on the UCC and said that everyone has the right to give their opinion. He said that the Law Commission has sought opinions and whatever suggestions they get will be considered. This law will apply to all citizens irrespective of religion, caste, and all customs. The Law Commission initiated the process of reconsideration of the UCC on june 14. The commission sought opinions from stakeholders including the public and recognized religious organizations on the politically sensitive issue. Meanwhile, the governor praised the Muslim women (Protection of marriage Rights) Act 2019 which makes the practice of divorce through triple talaq a punishable offense among Muslims. Three-year imprisonment is also a strict rule under this law. In this regard, the court also said that triple talaq is against the fundamental principles of the Quran.
The practice of triple talaq was made a crime in two years. After the implementation of the triple talaq law, the governor tried to explain it to the people and unite the women. He said that it took 2 years to make the practice of triple talaq a punishable crime among Muslims.
