Director mani ratnam has explained in an interview with famous director Anurag Kashyap that english is being used a lot in tamil songs and that tamil songs now seem meaningless. As far as the tamil film industry is concerned, songs have been as important as stories. Many films have been made for the sake of songs. Even songs shot 50 years ago are still on the playlist of many today. tamil lyricists had the ability to say things that could not be said in a three-hour film in three-minute songs. That is why even songs written many decades ago have become established today.
But now many people do not understand the songs and the lyrics in them. It is okay to trend on social media for a few days. Otherwise, the songs do not stand still. Moreover, the mix of many languages like english spoils the beauty of the songs. Speaking about this, famous director Anurag Kashyap said that now you cannot hear tamil in tamil songs. In the past, there was a situation where songs from tamil were bought and sold in Hindi. But now that situation has changed. He had criticized that tamil songs are now meaningless with english mix.
Replying to this, Maniratnam said, “Most of my film titles are in Tamil. I love tamil very much. rahman and I have taken a lot of poems from tamil literature and made them into songs. I deny that english lyrics are used to entertain young audiences. That alone will not make a film run. That alone will not make a good film. Only if you create good characters, it will help a story. Songs or titles will not help a film run.”
