Manipur Violence: supreme court appoints ex-officer…

  A hearing was held in the supreme court on monday (August 7) regarding the case of Manipur violence. The court has formed a committee of former judges to oversee the relief and rehabilitation work. Along with this, a former officer has been appointed to supervise the cbi investigation.


CJI (CJI) DY Chandrachud ordered that the cbi investigation will be supervised by former mumbai Police Commissioner Dattatreya Patsalgikar. The CJI said that a committee of 3 former high court judges should be formed to give suggestions on relief and rehabilitation. In which Geeta Mittal, shalini Joshi and Asha menon will be included. It will be headed by former high court judge Geeta Mittal.

Earlier during the hearing, Attorney General Venkataramani told that 6500 FIRs have been classified and made available to the court. We need to look at the matter very maturely. We have suggested formation of various types of SITs. He said that the SIT probing murder cases would be headed by an SP rank officer. SIT will be formed under the leadership of a senior woman officer to investigate cases of misbehavior with women. Similarly there are other SITs. DIG will take report from them. DGP will also review every 15 days. The attorney said that 6 SITs will be formed in every district more affected by violence. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the supreme court that the 11 cases which were earlier handed over to the cbi, will be investigated by the cbi only. women officers of cbi will also be involved in the investigation of cases related to women.
