Reportedly the team of Sales Tax Department has seized liquor worth more than Rs 1 crore in Shivpuri district of Madhya

Pradesh. The special thing is that illicit liquor was being smuggled in the name of medicine. Due to strictness in

checking suspicious vehicles on the highway during elections, this liquor was smuggled from ludhiana to

Maharashtra and was caught from a truck. It is being told that the Sales Tax Commissioner of Shivpuri received

information from an informer that liquor was being illegally loaded in a truck and was being taken from ludhiana,

Punjab to Maharashtra. The price of liquor is more than one crore rupees. On receiving the information, he

instructed Assistant Commissioner Commerce Tax Jaya Sharma to take action in the matter.

After this, the Sales Tax team started chasing the suspicious vehicle on the highway and stopped the truck near

village Sumela of Badarwas and started investigation. When the e-bill (bilty) presented by the truck driver was

checked, the medicine was loaded in the truck as per the billty. When the Sales Tax team opened the truck and

checked it, liquor was found instead of medicine. The Sales Tax team seized the truck and kept it in the police

station, opened the truck and started counting the liquor. According to departmental estimates, liquor worth more

than Rs 1 crore is said to be in the truck.

Thirty lakhs seized in Panna

Assistant Commissioner Commerce Tax Jaya Sharma said that legal action will be taken in the case of smuggling

through the police only after the counting of liquor boxes is completed. He said that the calculation of tax evasion

will be decided on the basis of MRP and market value of liquor. At present further action is going on. At the same

time, Panna police has got great success. police have recovered cash worth Rs 30 lakh 11 thousand and silver

jewelery worth Rs 11 lakh from the vehicle of Uttar Pradesh. This action, based on the information given by an

informer during checking, has created a stir. Giving information about recovery of such a huge amount during

election checking, Panna police said that they are taking proper action by seizing the money and silver jewellery.

The possibility of its use in elections is being investigated. This is the biggest action of Bundelkhand so far.
