A bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta said that kejriwal, arrested in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam, will have to surrender on june 2 and go back to jail. The bench did not accept the request of Kejriwal's lawyer Abhishek Singhvi that he be granted interim bail till june 5. Voting will be held in the seventh and final phase for the lok sabha elections on june 1. Counting of votes will take place on june 4.
The court said that details of the reasons for granting interim bail to kejriwal will be given later. On behalf of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Solicitor General S v Raju opposed the grant of interim bail to the national convener of aam aadmi party (AAP) on the basis of election campaign, saying that there is no such precedent. The court said that granting interim bail to kejriwal for 21 days will not make much difference. The bench said that the bail conditions will be the same as were imposed in the case of AAP leader Sanjay Singh.
