The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is one of the most reliable savings schemes for salaried individuals in India. Managed by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), it not only helps you save for retirement but also serves as an emergency fund. But do you know how to quickly check how much money is sitting in your PF account?

Here’s a step-by-step guide to check your PF balance through SMS, missed call, UMANG app, EPFO website, and DigiLocker.

1 Why Checking Your PF Balance Matters

Your PF account grows every month with contributions from both you and your employer. By checking your balance:

  • ✅ You stay updated on how much has accumulated.
  • ✅ You can track if your employer is depositing regularly.
  • ✅ You can plan financial goals better.

2 Check PF Balance via SMS

If you don’t have internet access, SMS is the quickest way.

  • Send an SMS: EPFOHO UAN ENG to 7738299899.
  • Replace ENG with your preferred language code (e.g., HIN for Hindi, TAM for Tamil).
  • You will receive an SMS with your latest PF balance details.

Note: Your UAN (Universal Account Number) must be linked with Aadhaar, PAN, and bank account.

3 PF Balance Through Missed Call

Another no-internet method is the missed call service.

  • Dial 9966044425 from your registered mobile number.
  • Disconnect after 2 rings.
  • You will get an SMS with your PF balance and last contribution details.

4 PF Balance via UMANG App

The government’s UMANG app is a one-stop solution for all EPFO services.
Steps:

Download and install the UMANG app.

Register using your mobile number and Aadhaar-linked OTP.

Go to EPFO servicesEmployee Centric Services.

Select View Passbook to see your PF transactions.

5Check Balance on EPFO Website

If you prefer using a desktop/laptop:

Visit passbook.epfindia.gov.in.

Login using your UAN and password.

Select your member ID.

Your PF passbook with deposits and balance will be displayed.

6 DigiLocker App for PF Balance

EPFO has recently partnered with DigiLocker for easier access to PF-related documents.
Steps:

Download the DigiLocker app (Android/iOS).

Login or create a new account using Aadhaar.

Go to EPFO section and link your UAN with Aadhaar.

Once linked, you can access:

Your UAN Card

Pension Payment Order (PPO)

PF Passbook with balance and transactions

This feature eliminates the need to switch between multiple apps.

7 Forgot Your UAN? Don’t Worry!

If you don’t know your UAN, you can:

  • Retrieve it via the UMANG app.
  • Or use the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal with your Aadhaar/PAN details.
Once activated, you can use it for all PF-related services.

8PF Withdrawal Made Simple

Apart from checking balance, apps like UMANG and DigiLocker also allow you to:

  • Apply for partial withdrawals (medical, education, home loan).
  • Withdraw your PF after retirement or job change.

 Final Word

With EPFO making PF services digital, checking your PF balance is no longer a hassle. Whether through SMS, missed call, UMANG app, EPFO website, or DigiLocker, you can stay updated anytime, anywhere.
