SIR Phase II: Over 50 Million Nomination Forms Distributed in a Single Day

Over 50 million nomination forms were distributed in a single day under the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The exercise covered nine states and three union territories (UTs).
Data was shared by the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday.
Cumulative Progress
A total of 420 million nomination forms have been distributed so far across 12 states and UTs.
The EC’s daily bulletin highlighted that 370 million forms had been distributed by 3 PM on november 12.
The latest figure of 420 million indicates coverage of 82.71% of the total 509.9 million voters in these regions.

States and Union Territories Covered
The SIR Phase II includes:
Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West bengal, Puducherry, andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West bengal are scheduled to hold elections in 2026.
Assam will have a separate schedule announced for its electoral roll correction.

Nomination Phase: november 4 – december 4, 2025.
Draft Voter List Release: december 9, 2025.
Final Voter List Publication: february 7, 2026.
Political Reactions
Trinamool congress (TMC) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) have opposed the SIR, citing fears of disenfranchisement due to document-related issues.
Following the bihar SIR, the ec has included Aadhaar cards in the list of mandatory documents for verification.
The ec instructed Chief Electoral Officers to issue notices to voters whose earlier SIR details are missing or mismatched in the database.
