In a significant mid-season development, chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed young South African batting prodigy Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.
Gurjapneet, the promising indian pacer, sustained a shoulder injury during a recent practice session and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament. His absence is a blow to CSK's bowling depth, particularly in the death overs. However, the team has opted for an unconventional replacement by bringing in a dynamic batting option in Brevis.
Nicknamed “Baby AB” for his striking resemblance to ab de villiers in both technique and flair, Brevis brings explosive talent and youthful energy to the CSK squad. The 21-year-old has already made waves in various t20 leagues around the world, known for his fearless strokeplay and ability to change games in a matter of overs.
Speaking on the signing, CSK CEO kasi Viswanathan said, “We’re sad to see Gurjapneet miss the rest of the season. He’s been an exciting young talent for us. At the same time, we’re thrilled to welcome Dewald to the yellow brigade. His aggressive style suits the brand of cricket CSK is known for.”
While the decision to replace a bowler with a batter raised a few eyebrows, CSK’s think tank seems focused on boosting their firepower at the top and middle order, especially with key matches ahead in the league stage.
Brevis is expected to join the squad within the next few days and could feature in CSK’s upcoming fixture, depending on his match fitness and team composition.
As the IPL 2025 enters a crucial phase, all eyes will be on how this bold move pans out for the Men in Yellow.
