The Coromandel Express, the Yesvantpur-Howrah Express, and the freight train's 21 wrecked coaches are all currently being removed from the railway rails in Balasore. According to officials, track lining and OHE operations are being done concurrently with the grounding of three freight waggons and a locomotive.

The fundamental cause of the tragedy that claimed more than 280 lives was discovered on sunday by Railways minister ashwini Vaishnaw after inspecting the restoration work at the scene of the three-way train catastrophe in Balasore, Odisha. He claimed that a modification in electronic interlocking was to blame for the catastrophe. When the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express collided with a cargo train and fell on a nearby track near Balasore on friday night, about 10 to 12 carriages of the train derailed. The Coromandel Express' derailed coaches were then collided with by another train travelling from Yeswanthpur to Howrah. The current official death toll is 294.
