Ukraine has carried out the biggest drone attack on russia so far, targeting a military base in Siberia inside Russia. Ukrainian drones have attacked at least 40 Russian aircraft. The Russian governor of the Irkutsk region confirmed the attack, saying that a Ukrainian remote-piloted aircraft attacked a military unit in a village, the first such attack in Siberia.
Ukrainian media reported that in an operation carried out by the Security service of ukraine (SBU), more than 40 Russian aircraft were targeted at airports located behind the Russian Federation. This includes the airports of Olenya and Belaya. news agency AFP quoted a source as saying that the aim of this attack is to destroy enemy bombers aircraft located away from the front in Russia. The source said that a fire broke out at the Belaya airbase.
Which aircraft were destroyed?
A report in the Kiev Independent, citing sources, claimed that the destroyed aircraft included Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 bombers as well as at least one A-50 airborne early warning aircraft. According to RT's report, military and civilian response teams have already been prepared to deal with the threat and the drone launch source has been blocked. A video of this attack has also surfaced. This will be the most damaging Ukrainian drone attack of the war and a major blow to Russia.
Ukraine's special operation
According to Ukrainian publication Pravda, this has been started under a special operation, codenamed Pavutyna or Web. Its purpose is to reduce Russia's long-range strike capability. Although ukraine does not have a stockpile of missiles like russia, it has built a large fleet of attack drones, which it has previously used to attack Russian military and oil installations. The SBU did not say what type of drones were used in the attack, but unconfirmed reports on social media suggested some were FPV drones fired from trucks parked near airports.
