india possesses French-made Rafale fighter jets and Russian-made Sukhoi aircraft. The indian air Force uses both fighter aircraft. russia now wants to sell india both the 4.5-generation Su-35 and the fifth-generation Su-57 combat aircraft. However, New delhi has not indicated that it is interested in either plane.

Countries interested in purchasing the Made-in-Russia Su-35 fighter jet have expressed concern after a top Egyptian military officer recently pointed out a number of technical issues with the aircraft.  According to the officer, egypt has canceled its 2018 agreement to purchase Russian Su-35 fighter fighters after a number of technical issues were discovered. Following the Egyptian military officer's revelation, questions are being raised about whether this is the reason why india is not buying this aircraft?

What Was The Deal Between egypt And Russia?
In 2018, egypt agreed to purchase 24 Su-35 fighter jets from russia for USD 2 billion.  This agreement was seen as Russia's most significant Middle east defense victory.  However, the agreement between egypt and russia was put on hold in 2020.

Notably, Russia's Su-35 is a multirole fighter jet of the 4.5 generation, equipped with a number of advanced weapons and radar systems.

However, a top Egyptian military official has since said that the Su-35 purchase was canceled due to strategic needs and technical issues.  According to him, the Su-35's radar, engine, and electronic warfare are all lacking.

In addition, egypt faced pressure from penalties imposed by the US CAATSA Act.

Why Egyptian Military Officer Saying This?
The Egyptian air Force's technical analysis of this aircraft revealed that the Irbis-E radar is technically deficient, according to the military officer. The outdated PESA (Passive Electronically Scanned Array) technology serves as its foundation. They employ AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar, which is different from that of the US F-35 and France's Rafale.

Notably, because AESA radar is less likely to jam during electronic warfare, it is thought to be more efficient.

In addition, the Su-35's electronic warfare equipment is inadequate compared to contemporary combat, according to the Egyptian air Force.  The Egyptian air Force claims that the electronic countermeasures of today are too strong for this combat strategy.

The Su-35's AL-41F1S engine limits the aircraft's capabilities because it uses more fuel and produces strong thermal and acoustic signatures.  These engines are vulnerable to infrared and radar systems because, despite their strength, they produce a lot of heat and sound.

Unsuitable for the Egyptian air Force's Defense Doctrine

Operational independence is the cornerstone of the Egyptian air Force's defense strategy, particularly in areas prone to conflict, like airstrikes in libya or insurrection in Sinai.

The Airborne Warning and Control System, or AWACS, is essential to the Su-35 fighter jet's optimal performance. This is contrary to Egypt's "independent decision-making ability" agenda.

With its sophisticated features like the SPECTRA electronic warfare system and RBE2 AESA radar, the French Rafale fighter can function independently of outside assistance.

Egypt canceled the agreement with russia for the same reason.

USA Threatened Egypt
Under the CAATSA act, the US threatened to impose sanctions on egypt, threatening to withhold more than $1 billion in yearly military assistance if egypt bought Russian fighter fighters.
