In the wake of Cyclone Ditwa, which caused widespread damage across several regions of tamil Nadu, chief minister M.K. Stalin chaired a high-level review meeting today (01.12.2025) at the secretariat to assess the impact and discuss relief measures.
During the meeting, officials briefed the chief minister on the extent of destruction caused by heavy rains and strong winds, particularly the devastation faced by farmers. Cyclone Ditwa has severely affected horticultural crops, leaving many farmers anxious about their livelihoods.
Stalin Orders Immediate Assessment and Relief
Addressing the officials, chief minister stalin expressed deep concern over the hardship faced by farmers. Stressing that the government must stand firmly with them during such crises, he directed authorities to:
- Begin rapid field-level surveys to record the damage to horticultural and other crops.
- Submit detailed reports at the earliest to facilitate the release of financial assistance.
- Ensure that relief reaches farmers without delay or bureaucratic hurdles.
Stalin emphasised that timely support is crucial as Cyclone Ditwa has disrupted income sources for thousands of agricultural families.
Farmers’ Agony Highlighted
Sources say that stalin was particularly moved by reports describing the extent of crop loss, which has left many farmers in distress. Recognising the gravity of the situation, he instructed officials to treat relief work as a top priority, ensuring that:
- Compensation is disbursed quickly
- Damaged horticultural fields are documented accurately
- Farmers receive immediate support to resume cultivation
The chief minister reaffirmed the state’s commitment to protecting farmers, stating that no effort should be spared in restoring normalcy.
Comprehensive Relief Measures Expected
The government is expected to announce a detailed relief package soon, covering:
- Compensation for crop loss
- Assistance for damaged irrigation systems
- Support for restoring farming operations
- Aid for affected families and infrastructure
The meeting concluded with directives to all district administrations to intensify on-ground monitoring and coordinate closely with the Disaster Management Department.
