In india, Independence Day is celebrated with enthusiasm and pride across the country every year on 15th August. This time the country is celebrating its 79th Independence Day. This day is a golden page in the history of india, which reminds us of the value and importance of independence, but there are two such districts in india where Independence Day is celebrated not on 15th august but two days later i.e. on 18th August. Why is this so and what is the reason behind it, let's know.
What was the reason?
India got freedom from british slavery on 15th august 1947, but this independence was not uniform for the whole of India. Some areas of West bengal were not a part of India. Which included Malda and Nadia. These areas were declared a part of east Pakistan at that time. Due to which independence was not celebrated here on 15th August. It took three days to completely include these areas in india, after which Mountbatten corrected the partition map on 18 August. Since then, people here celebrate Independence Day on 18 August. When india got independence on 15 august 1947, instead of celebrations, protests started here. people here were surprised by joining Pakistan.
The map was corrected
To correct this situation, Pandit Shyama prasad Mukherjee, who was a prominent leader at that time, and influential people like the royal family of Nadia put pressure on the british administration. Their demand was that these areas be included in India. This issue reached the then Viceroy Lord Mountbatten and he ordered correction in the partition map. This correction was completed on the night of 17 august 1947 and these areas were officially declared a part of India. For this reason, 18 august is celebrated as Independence Day in Nadia and Malda.
What is the importance of Independence Day?
Let us tell you that on 15 august 1947, Pandit jawaharlal nehru hoisted the tricolor at the red Fort in delhi and gave his historic speech. This day was the beginning of a new era for India. The importance of Independence Day is not limited to the attainment of independence. It reminds us of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters. This day strengthens our sense of unity, national pride and duty towards the country. Every year on 15 august, the prime minister hoists the tricolor at the red Fort and addresses the nation. On this day, cultural programs, parades and patriotic songs are organized in schools, colleges and government offices. This day inspires us to adopt the values of democracy, equality and brotherhood.
