Asad Bhopali was born on 10 July 1921 in the bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh. His childhood name was Asadullah Khan. His father was a teacher of Arabic and Persian languages. In the year 1949, the film producer duo Fazli Brothers was working on the film 'Duniya'. The lyricist of their film, Arzoo Lakhnavi, went to pakistan at the time of India-Pakistan partition. By that time, only two songs of the film had been written. Fazli Brothers were looking for a new lyricist. Then they saw Asad Bhopali.
Businessman Sugam Kapadia, who was the owner of some new cinema halls in bhopal, told Fazli Brothers that there are many good poets in Bhopal. He suggested that they come to bhopal and participate in a Mushaira and look for a good poet or singer. Fazli Brothers agreed. On 5 May 1949, Kapadia organized a Mushaira in bhopal Talkies. Along with many poets, Asad Bhopali also participated in this Mushaira and recited poetry. Fazli Brothers were very impressed with Asad Bhopali's performance. They called Asad Bhopali to Bombay.
As per the producers' request, Asad Bhopali wrote two songs for the film 'Duniya (1949)'. His first song, 'Rona Hai To Chupke Chupke', was sung by Mohammad Rafi, and 'Armaan Lute, dil Toot Gaya' was sung by Suraiya. The next year, he wrote some more songs for films. These songs were sung by lata mangeshkar and Shamshad Begum. Asad Bhopali got his biggest break in the film 'Afsana' (1951). He wrote five songs for this film.
Asad Bhopali worked with many music directors in his time. He wrote the famous song 'Woh Jab Yaad Aaye, Bahut Yaad Aaye' for Laxmikant Pyarelal's first released film 'Parasmani'.
