The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has announced a new rule regarding train ticket bookings. Starting January 5, 2026, passengers will need to ensure that their IRCTC accounts are Aadhaar-verified to book train tickets between 8 AM and 4 PM.
What the New Rule Means
Aadhaar Verification Mandatory
Only irctc users with Aadhaar-linked accounts can book tickets during the peak hours of 8 AM to 4 PM.
Accounts not verified with Aadhaar will not be able to book tickets during this time window.
Timing for Bookings
Between 8 AM and 4 PM: Aadhaar verification is mandatory.
After 4 PM and before 8 AM, users may still be able to book tickets without Aadhaar verification, but this is subject to IRCTC’s discretion.
Reason for the Change
To reduce fraudulent bookings and ensure that ticket bookings are linked to genuine passengers.
Helps the government and railways maintain secure passenger records.
How to Verify Your irctc Account with Aadhaar
Log in to your irctc account at https://www.irctc.co.in.
Go to “My Profile” → “Aadhaar Verification”.
Enter your Aadhaar number and name as per Aadhaar.
Verify OTP received on your registered mobile number linked with Aadhaar.
After successful verification, your account will be Aadhaar-linked, and you can book tickets during peak hours.
✅ Tip: Make sure your mobile number is updated with Aadhaar to receive the OTP.
What Passengers Should Do
- Verify Aadhaar in advance to avoid last-minute booking issues.
- Keep account details accurate, including name, date of birth, and contact information.
- Plan bookings outside 8 AM–4 PM if Aadhaar verification is pending.
Bottom Line
The new IRCTC Aadhaar verification rule ensures secure and genuine bookings, but passengers need to act promptly. Failing to link Aadhaar may result in ticket booking restrictions during peak hours, especially if traveling on popular routes or during high-demand seasons.
