First-ever indian to win the Diamond League Finale!!!
Olympic gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has achieved another historic feat by winning the coveted Diamond League Finals title. Neeraj Chopra is the first indian athlete to win this title. Neeraj Chopra started with a foul but reached the top in his second attempt with a throw of 88.44m. This is the fourth best performance of his career which eventually won him the gold medal. He threw 88.00 m, 86.11 m, 87.00 m and 83.60 m in his next four attempts.
Olympic silver medalist Jakob Vadlage of czech republic finished second with a best throw of 86.94m. He achieved this in his fourth attempt. Germany's Julian Weber finished third with 83.73m. Neeraj stated that it was a fabulous contest with Vadlage he also threw good. I was expected to throw the javelin for 90 meters today but I am happy that I have the Diamond Trophy now and that is the most important thing."
Neeraj said, "I was injured in Eugen and I need rest for two to three weeks. After that I will rehab and start preparing for next year."
This 24-year-old player from india is now Olympic champion, World championship silver medalist and Diamond League champion. He has achieved all these achievements within just 13 months. He won the Olympic gold medal in tokyo on august 7 last year. Neeraj Chopra has thrown the javelin six times this season from a distance of more than 88 meters, which shows his consistency. He holds the national record of 89.94 meters which he achieved in the same season.
Neeraj Chopra also concluded his session by creating history. The Diamond League Finals is considered the most prestigious event apart from the olympics and the World Championships. Neeraj Chopra participated in the Diamond League Finals for the third time. Earlier, he had finished seventh and fourth in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Neeraj Chopra received a diamond trophy, $30,000 prize money and a wild card for the World Athletics Championships 2023 to be held in Budapest, Hungary. However, he had already qualified for the World Championships.
