Titanic offered not just two famous lead characters, but also a very remarkable object that was the source of much turmoil in the film: the heart of the Ocean, a big diamond in a necklace, and this is where Rose's iconic necklace got its inspiration. Although james cameron is best known for films such as The Terminator, Aliens, and Avatar, he has worked in a variety of genres, and one of his most notable efforts was the catastrophe drama titanic, which was released in 1997.

Cal is the film's main enemy, and it is through him that a crucial object, the heart of the Ocean, is presented.

Cal gave Rose the heart of the Ocean as a symbol of his love and commitment to her on board the titanic, but as the storey progressed, it became evident that Cal's intentions weren't as sincere as he wanted everyone to believe. Rose was wearing only the heart of the Ocean when Jack created a sketch of her, which she used to inform Cal that she was fleeing with Jack. The heart of the Ocean was the catalyst for the plot of titanic, as it was Brock Lovett's (Bill Paxton) quest to find the necklace that brought Rose into the picture to tell her storey, and in the end, it was revealed that Rose had the necklace all along and had finally gotten rid of it by throwing it into the ocean.
