With the resignation of sitting mla Komatireddy Rajagopal reddy from his Munugode assembly seat and his switch from the congress to the bharatiya janata party, the political climate in telangana has once again become tense. Even before the election commission of india has made a decision regarding holding the by-election to fill the empty seat, battle lines have already been formed in Munugode. The by-election will probably take place the last week of october or the first week of November.

While it is quite obvious that Rajagopal will run for office in the by-election on the bjp ticket, the telangana rashtra samithi and the congress have yet to name their candidates. In particular, the congress party is having trouble selecting a viable candidate to run in the by-election in Munugode since Rajagopal is a powerful leader in the area and no one can compete with him in terms of popularity or financial clout. Since the Komatireddy brothers have controlled the entire region of the nalgonda district, there hasn't been any second tier leadership in the constituency.

There are a few leaders, such as Palvai Rajani, the late Palvai Goverdhan Reddy's former Munugode mla, but the local cadre has switched its allegiance to Rajagopal, therefore they are unsupported. In light of this, the congress high leadership requested a conference of senior leaders to be held in New delhi on monday to discuss the Munugode approach. priyanka gandhi met with them and instructed them to prepare for the by-election by choosing a candidate within a week.
