The most important issue burning now in kollywood becoming a sensation now happens to be the direct release of the jyothika starrer Ponmagal Vandhaal helmed by debutant JJ Frederick on amazon prime without theatrical release. Following this announcement, theatre owners association announced boycotting the release of all Suriya movies and then a joint statement was issued by 30 producers supporting of OTT release of small/medium budget movies.
Buzz is that following Trisha's Paramapatham Vilayaatu and a few more movies are planning direct OTT premiere including the long delayed santhanam starrer Server Sundaram helmed by debutant anand Balki and an official confirmation is awaited in this regard. This decision has been taken due to the second wave of Corona and the sudden lockdown which was implemented. Already, Night curfew has been imposed in several areas.
Most of the producers have preferred OTT release these days. Despite dhanush proved his stardom with 10 Crores on opening day with 'Karnan', his next movie 'Jagame Thanthiram' will be releasing directly on Netflix platform by June.
