The Civil Supplies Corporation, which has begun purchasing paddy across the State, is on track to meet its seasonal goal. With no arrivals, it has begun the process of closing the paddy procurement centres. The corporation's officials in charge of the acquisitions are eager to keep things going for another seven to ten days.
As of Friday, the Corporation had acquired more than 53 lakh tonnes of paddy from the 7100 procurement facilities that the State had opened for the season and were giving the minimum support price. Up to 62 lakh tonnes of paddy arrivals were anticipated this season. As promised to the farmers in the State by chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the Corporation had intended to purchase grain up to the last grain.

The Corporation was able to mobilise funds for making fast payments to the farmers thanks to bank guarantees that the State government had made possible. According to Corporation officials, the State government has paid the farmers for the paddy it bought from them on june 2, State Formation Day, to the tune of Rs. 1,180 crore.

On Monday, there should be one more batch of payments. Direct payments would be made into their bank accounts. The Corporation has been making preparations to pay the debts on time. Officials stated that, save a few locations where the arrivals were still ongoing, the purchasing operations would, by all means, be finished by june 10.

In areas like nalgonda and Suryapet, where paddy deliveries had slowed down or stopped altogether, as many as 2,200 paddy procurement centres had already been shut down. Due to the ongoing arrivals, the procurement centres would be open for some time in a few districts, including bhupalpally and Vikarabad.
