In the history of Chikkamagaluru district, the Tarikere peasants were among the first to stand against the British. The farmer Rangappanayaka escaped from captivity after spending 25 years in the custody of the british and died fighting against the british while his son Hanumappanayaka fell into the trap of the british and was hanged. He said, "When we hear our people sing this episode in the form of a ballad, we can understand the pains behind freedom. The struggle of all these organizations succeeded in giving the fruits of freedom to our nation on august 15, 1947.
