Recently, it was claimed on some websites that china has launched the world's first 10G broadband network, but this claim is not completely correct. In fact, this ultra-high-speed broadband service is already being provided in countries like South Korea, japan and Romania. China's network is definitely fast and advanced, but it would not be right to call it 'first' in the world.
What is 10G broadband and how is it different?
The 'G' in 10G broadband stands for 'gigabit', not the 'generation' used in mobile networks. It is a wired fiber-optic internet connection, which gives speeds up to 10 gigabits per second. That is, you can download a 20 GB 4K movie in just 20 seconds. Its speed goes up to about 9,834 Mbps, while the average speed in india is still around 60 Mbps.
The project has started in many cities, not just Sunan
It was reported in many reports that china has started 10G network in Sunan County of Hubei province, but this information is not correct. Actually, china has started pilot projects of this technology all over the country. These include large areas like Xiong'an, shanghai and Guangdong. It was officially announced in january 2025 and since then it is being implemented in many parts.
Many countries of the world have already adopted 10G
china is definitely moving fast in this race, but countries like South Korea, japan, US, UK and uae have already started 10G broadband networks. These networks are mainly being used for business and smart technology.
Where does india stand?
If China's 10G speed is compared with india, the difference is clearly visible. In cities like Delhi, where some providers advertise plans up to 1 Gbps, the real speed is not more than 77 Mbps. The average fixed broadband speed in india till march 2025 was 58.62 Mbps, ranking india 87th in the world. At the same time, the speed of China's 10G network is almost 100 times more than India.
