

India's leading global airline air india has received 'Good Distribution Practices' (GDP) certification for its cargo business. This certification is given for following international guidelines for safe, temperature-controlled and high-standard transportation of medicines. air india has become the first and only indian airline to achieve this feat, and has joined the few companies in Asia to have received this recognition.
After getting GDP certification, air india will now further strengthen its presence in the pharmaceutical sector. In the financial year 2024-25, air india has transported more than 4,000 tonnes of medicines worldwide.
air india Cargo Head Ramesh Mamidala said, "India is a major pharmaceutical exporter in the world, and this certification will give us trust and credibility globally. We are committed to ensuring the quality and safety of every shipment."
Domestically, air india has GDP certified stations in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, indore and Goa, while the international network includes major gateways such as New York, Newark, Chicago, London, Frankfurt, paris and Amsterdam.
air india has made several technological and procedural improvements in this area, such as the use of temperature controlled containers, introduction of cool dollies, thermal blankets, and special training of staff on IATA temperature control regulations.
This certification will take air India's logistics capabilities in the pharmaceutical sector to new heights, and will prove to be a significant step towards making india a major air cargo hub.
