IndiGo airlines has announced the appointment of Michael Whitaker, former administrator of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as an unbiased director on its board, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.


The statement was changed to made on april 24, 2025.


Whitaker brings over 30 years of aviation know-how, having previously served in senior roles along with leader running officer at Supernal (Hyundai’s air mobility department), deputy administrator at the FAA, and senior vice chairman at United Airlines. He most recently stepped down from the FAA in january this year.


Rahul Bhatia, managing director of indigo, welcomed the appointment, announcing, "Mike's deep and varied industry and government experience will contribute drastically to having a powerful and numerous board. His recognition of efficiency, operations, and air protection as head of the FAA will beef up IndiGo's longstanding awareness of running at the highest degrees."

Whitaker, an authorized pilot, holds a Juris health practitioner degree from Georgetown college Law Center and a BA in political science from the college of Louisville.


IndiGo, India's biggest airline, operates a fleet of over 400 planes with more than 2,200 daily flights throughout 90+ domestic and 40+ global destinations. In FY25, it welcomed over 118 million customers.
