A few days ago, M venkaiah naidu, the vice president of india, summoned a meeting of a few Union ministers and senior central government officials to discuss the status of several initiatives the Center is carrying out in Andhra Pradesh. Naturally, Venkaiah's action aroused a lot of questions. Normally, no Vice President of india meets with ministers or other government representatives or reviews the progress being made in any state's development.

The vice-president of india is undoubtedly a little more active than the President of india since, as chairman of the Rajya Sabha, he frequently engages in political strategy discussions with MPs and ministers. He is not, however, involved in any administrative functions. Even if he does, out of curiosity, he would have a broad overview of any significant national issue, but not any topics specific to a given state. Therefore, it was unexpected when venkaiah called a conference to discuss andhra pradesh projects related to the ap Reorganisation Act.

Venkaiah will also be leaving his position in another three weeks. He needn't be as enthusiastic about the ap projects, therefore. He called Union ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Nityanand Rai, as well as representatives from the human resource development department, and asked them to speed up the completion of unfinished projects related to AP. This raised questions about whether venkaiah intended to take a significant part in Andhra politics once his stint as vice president of india came to an end.
