On July 16, obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. santoshi Nandigam cautioned her instagram followers against following unreliable or unrealistic fertility advice. She emphasized that having sex exclusively during ovulation may lower the chances of becoming pregnant, even while timing sex with ovulation can raise the likelihood of conception.

Dr. Nandigam also discussed the misconception that using coconut oil when cooking is essential when attempting to conceive.  Despite its possible health advantages, there is little scientific proof that coconut oil directly affects fertility.

In her piece headlined '5 reproductive misconceptions that need to die - now!', the doctor dispelled a few more fallacies, saying, "Stop listening to google aunties and unsolicited advice from the internet."  For women attempting to conceive, these five antiquated ideas are more detrimental than beneficial. Here are five potential misguided fertility tips that Dr Nandigam wants you to know:

1. "Age doesn't matter if you freeze your eggs!"

"Freezing eggs does not guarantee fertility. Fertility does decrease with age; therefore, the earlier, the better. Dr. Nandigam advised, "Bet on facts rather than a freezer."

2. "Lose weight and you'll get pregnant."

"Weight is one factor, not the factor," she continued.  Among other things, fertility is hormonal, metabolic, and affective.  Fat-shaming is not a form of treatment.

3. "Have sex only during ovulation."

"Yes, timing is important," Dr. Nandigam stated. However, connection, stress, sperm health, and egg quality are more important. Your body does not function as a calendar.

4. "Cook with coconut oil for better fertility."

"There is no one magical oil," Dr. Nandigam continued.  An anti-inflammatory diet and general hormonal balance are more important for fertility than oil replacement.

5. "Strict fertility diets are the key."

"Strict diets frequently lead to increased stress.  Obsession is less important than balance.  She concluded, "Your body needs sustenance, not punishment.
