As per report the Sending Back And Forth Of An Accident Victim Recently By Two State Hospitals Over Equipment-Related Issues Highlights the Need For Staff With Expertise In Maintenance and experts in the city have attributed the recent death of 26 year old accident victim L. Prakash to the absence of biomedical engineers in state run hospitals.



Bio-medical engineers not only develop new medical devices and equipment but are also skilled to maintain them. Bio-medical engineering is a comparatively new field of specialization which combines biology and medicine with engineering.

Meanwhile majority of hospitals in the state follow the practice of outsourcing the responsibility of maintaining medical equipment, experts stated how having in-house engineers could save hospitals from several errors caused due to non-maintenance of medical equipment. 



 Rangarajan, a biomedical engineering expert has said an internal quality check is required to know if all devices are functioning well, if internal quality assurance is not conducted by biomedical engineers then devices such as the one used to find platelet count can record wrong results and patients will be treated in the wrong way.
