Following this, prime minister Modi visited the Balasore district Hospital and met the families of those who died in the accident and those who are undergoing treatment for their injuries. Later, prime minister Narendra Modi spoke to the cabinet Secretary and the health minister over phone and ordered to provide necessary assistance to the injured and their families, officials said.

In an interview to DD TV, prime minister Narendra Modi said, "This is a tragic incident. The government will provide all the necessary treatment to the injured. An investigation has been ordered from every angle. The culprits will be severely punished."

Preliminary information: A team of railway officials has conducted a preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident. In it, it is stated that the signal was first given to the Coromandel Express train and then withdrawn, which led to the accident.

"After the signal was given, the Coromandel Express derailed on the connecting track and collided with the goods vehicle. The coaches of the derailed train fell on the main track. The Yeshwantpur - Howrah Express train on that track collided with the coaches on the main track," preliminary investigation revealed. .
