Jallikattu, the traditional heroic sport of Tamils, is held annually around the tamil festival of Pongal. Jallikattu competitions held at Alankanallur, Palamedu and Avaniyapuram in madurai district are world famous. In this case, the madurai branch of the madras high court has ordered that the name of the caste should not be mentioned during jallikattu competitions. The court has directed that bulls should not be untied by mentioning the name of the bull's owner along with the caste.


The madurai court has also directed to consider the request of the petitioner regarding taking the language of untouchability.

Meanwhile, preparations for this year's jallikattu competitions are in full swing. The dates of Jallikattu competitions in madurai have been announced by the district Collector. It is also said that Jallikattu matches will be held at the usual venue.


Jallikattu competitions will be held in Avaniyapuram on 15th january, in Balamet on 16th january and in Alankanallur on 17th January.
