Get PAN - Aadhaar Linked Today...!? If Not, Trouble!

As per Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, 1961, those eligible for an Aadhaar card after July 1, 2017, will have to mention the Aadhaar number while applying for a PAN number or filing an income tax return. Current rules require you to link your Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Aadhaar number. As per the rule laid down by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), if the two are not linked, their PAN cards may become 'inactive'. That means it may not be valid. As a result, you cannot carry out high-value financial transactions that require a PAN card. Now it is very important for people to know this important thing related to the PAN card. This penalty will be levied on those who have not yet linked their PAN card with an Aadhaar card.
PAN will be deactivated:
As per current rules, you have to link your Permanent Account Number (PAN) with your Aadhaar number. According to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), if the two are not linked, their PAN cards may become 'inactive'. As a result, you will not be able to carry out financial transactions. Now, people can link PAN and Aadhaar cards by paying a fine of Rs 1,000, while the deadline for linking the two without paying a penalty has passed.

Penalty Payment Method for Linking PAN and Aadhaar in Income Tax Portal

1. First, go to the website https://onlineservices.tin.egov-nsdl.com/etaxnew/tdsnontds.jsp.

2. To submit an Aadhaar card PAN linkage request click on proceed under challan number ITNS280.

3. Then select the applicable tax.

4. Then ensure payment under minor head 500 and major head 0021 in the same challan.

5. You have to choose the mode of payment i.e. net banking or debit card.

After this, you have to enter the PAN Number (PAN Number) and select the assessment year and register the address and finally enter the CAPSA correctly, and click on Continue. Now you can easily pay your premium amount online.
At the same time, the Income Tax Department had also extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar with a PAN card some time back. Taxpayers who have not yet linked their Aadhaar with their PAN number are requested to protect their PAN card from deactivation by june 30, 2023. The Income Tax Department of india has made it mandatory for every citizen to link both identity cards.
However, in some cases, the Aadhaar PAN number linking rule has been relaxed. ie-
1. people who are not citizens of our country India.
2. Citizens aged 80 or above in FY 2022-23
3. Residents of Jammu and Kashmir, meghalaya and Assam
4. Non-resident indian taxpayers

PAN-Aadhaar linking is currently not mandatory for the above four categories.

Earlier, the government had insisted that all indian people should link their PAN card with their Aadhaar card. While it was earlier said that it should be linked by march 31, 2022, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (NSDL) issued a notification at the end of march 2022, extending the deadline for linking the Aadhaar-PAN card from march 31, 2022, to march 31, 2023, for the convenience of people. Now 2023, it has been further extended till 30th June. However, it is noteworthy that the government had also announced that from april 1, 2022, the penalty will be imposed on those who link Aadhaar and PAN.
