The man accused of killing his girlfriend Shraddha Walker, Aaftab Amin Poonawala, used to pose as the victim on instagram to trick her friends into thinking she was still alive. The victim, a call centre employee, was killed in May. Up until june 9, Poonawala talked with her friends nonstop. Then he stopped. Her friends notified her family after her status remained inactive for several months.

Due to his opposition to her relationship with the accused, Shraddha Walker and her father did not get along well. She lost her mother in 2020. After her mother passed away, she allegedly told her father that Poonawala had been beating her. She also got to know her dad. In the complaint, the father further stated that he had pleaded with Shraddha to leave Poonawala. They reconciled after Poonawala offered an apology to her.

He stopped speaking to her after learning about her choice. Recently, Walkar's father learned of their breakup. He reported her daughter missing after being unable to reach her. Her last known whereabouts was Delhi, and when the mumbai Police called Poonawala, he gave them various inconsistent accounts, according to PTI. Poonawala was seeing another woman and employed at a contact centre in Gurugram at the time of the investigation.

Walker allegedly strangled Poonawala during their dispute on May 18 according to the police. The following day, he bought a refrigerator and kept her dismembered remains inside for several weeks. Piece by piece, he would throw the body outside. He used incense and room freshener to mask the obnoxious scent coming from the body.
