According to the investigation of indian Express, from the year 2014 to march 2023, ED's action against politicians has increased four times. In these nine years, 121 prominent politicians came under investigation. Of these, 95 percent i.e. 115 leaders are opposition. During the UPA regime from 2004 to 2014, a total of 26 leaders came under investigation, out of which 54 percent i.e. 14 were from the opposition. Prominent opposition leaders on whom the ED has tightened its noose in the last 9 years include rahul gandhi, sonia gandhi, mallikarjun Kharge, Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Raut, abhishek Banerjee, Jayat Patil, Raghav Chadha, P Chidambaram, DK Shivakumar.

In 2013, Swamy filed a complaint in a court against the gandhi family for fraud and misuse of funds. Since then ED is investigating the case. sonia gandhi and rahul gandhi have also been interrogated in the case. About 20 congress leaders are under the scanner of the investigating agency.
