According to new research, facebook Marketplace, which was launched in 2016 and has over 1 billion users, has become a playground for hackers to deceive people. The marketplace is a specialised centre where individuals may list used things for sales, such as automobiles, clothing, yachts, and toys, and be linked with buyers, who are generally local, to complete the deal.

The marketplace has become a virtual realm inhabited by numerous fraudsters and hackers who often mislead consumers without repercussions, according to a recent investigation by ProPublica, a US-based news organisation. Worse, Facebook's content moderators are doing such a poor job of filtering out hackers and fraudsters that they fail to take action even when they are aware of disturbing occurrences or rogue accounts. According to ProPublica, facebook recognised the problems but said it was working hard to resolve them.

Accenture employs 400 people on facebook Marketplace in the United States, Ireland, India, and Singapore. These employees are expected to handle over 600 complaints or assistance requests every day, averaging less than one minute per occurrence. Aside from the employees, facebook uses automated algorithms to check listings for signs of fraud or other questionable activity before they go public.
Even if they are aware of frauds, Marketplace contract employees seldom stop them from happening, according to the research. Only when a consumer has been misled or ripped off do the contractors become involved. This automatic programme can sometimes prevent legitimate customers from using the platform. As a result, money is lost, facebook accounts are hacked, and personal information is taken.
