The WHO was established 75 years ago on april 7, this year. To ensure that everyone, everywhere can achieve the highest degree of health and well-being, governments from all over the world united in 1948 to create the United Nations Specialized Agency. The agency's mission is to promote health, maintain global security, and assist the most vulnerable.
The 75th anniversary of WHO provides an opportunity to reflect on the collective accomplishments in public health made possible by science-driven learning and international, cross-cultural collaboration, as well as to inspire action to address upcoming health challenges for greater well-being and longer, healthier lives for all.
Based on the idea that everyone has a right to the best possible level of health, regardless of ethnicity, religion, political beliefs, or economic or social circumstances, the World health Organization was established in 1948.
This year, we commemorate 75 years of nonstop activity aimed at enhancing human health beginning on april 7, World health Day. We have made incredible strides in public health over this time, with a 16-year increase in average life expectancy throughout the 53 member states of the WHO european Region in europe and Central Asia.
Our world has transformed as a result of scientific discoveries, medical advancements, and international health agreements. We have created and distributed vaccines for measles, poliomyelitis, and smallpox in order to save the lives of children all across the world. We have established the Expanded Programme on Immunization.
