DMK mp Tamilachchi Thangapandian spoke in parliament in this regard as follows: -

"Introduced by the former chief minister artiste in 1970, the Tamiltai greeting is usually sung at all government functions. IIT continues to violate this.

Tamiltai greetings were ignored at the event held at IIT in 2018 as well. The song was sung in Sanskrit. We are not against any language. We love all languages. But we worship Tamil.

Therefore, the Central Ministry of education should ensure that Tamils sing greetings at IIT Chennai. ”
