Chief minister Siddaramaiah has given permission to create a factcheck (truth checking) unit to detect and control fake news spread on social media and to formulate a law to impose severe punishment on syndicates that create fake news. In a meeting held at Chief Minister's home office Krishna on monday on cyber security, the spread of fake news on social media is a threat to democracy. Its control is essential. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a fact check unit in the state. He instructed the officials of home Department and IT-BT Department to make all necessary rules and laws for it.


In the meeting, the fact check unit's supervisory committee, appointment of nodal officers, formation of analysis team, capacity building teams and systematic use of technology were explained in the meeting. Speaking on this occasion, IT-BT minister Priyank Kharge, Bangalore police are also active on social media. In the current situation, the state needs a factcheck unit. He said that artificial intelligence is being used to spread fake news.


This unit is needed to detect fake news and maintain law and order. IT-BT department will provide all kind of cooperation at the initial stage. All possible steps should be taken to bring the unit under the ambit of law. Gradually it was felt that the unit should remain under the home department. home minister Dr. G. Parameshwar said that although the fake news network is currently in its initial stage, it is likely to be widely used in the near future. Those who spread fake news should also be severely punished. This committee should be formed immediately. He also said that people should be convinced that spreading false news is a punishable offence.
