After being discovered in doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a previously identified plot hole in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is being brought to light once more. In a lot of the MCU, New York City has acted as a sort of primary hub. After Loki invaded Manhattan in Avengers, Stark Tower in Manhattan, now known as Avengers Tower, functioned as the team's headquarters for a spell. Additionally, Greenwich village is home to doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum, Captain America is a young boy from Brooklyn, and Spider-Man lives in Queens.

However, the Stark/Avengers Tower has exposed certain continuity issues for the series. Although the building's precise location is never specified in the MCU, it is intended to stand where the existing MetLife building is now. Actually, Tony Stark purchased the property out of conceit, according to james Chinlund, the production designer for the Avengers, who based his design on the MetLife structure. This is why it's problematic when an unchanged MetLife building repeatedly appears in the background of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) productions, as it most recently did in Hawkeye's season finale, which viewers were quick to point out.

The error was previously made fun of on social media, but Marvel Studios apparently didn't get the joke. The MetLife building can once again be seen in the skyline as doctor Strange faces off against Gargantos in Multiverse of Madness, as noted by one savvy Marvel fan on Reddit with the nickname Electrical Daikon771. Strange is being held captive by the multiversal monster, which can still be seen in the distance with the MetLife building that still bears the company's emblem.
