Arrival and Welcome
Prime minister Narendra Modi arrived in bhutan on tuesday for a two-day official visit.
He landed at Paro Airport, where he was warmly received by Bhutanese prime minister Tshering Tobgay.
PM Tobgay welcomed Modi on X, calling him his “elder brother”.
Purpose of the Visit
The visit is centered around attending the 70th birthday celebrations of Bhutan’s Fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
Modi described it as an honour to join the Bhutanese people in celebrating the milestone.
Meetings and Engagements
PM Modi will hold discussions with:
King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck, the reigning monarch.
Prime minister Tshering Tobgay is strengthening high-level dialogue.
He will also meet the Fourth king during the birthday celebrations.
Key Inaugurations and Projects
Modi and king Wangchuck will jointly inaugurate the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project, a major India–Bhutan collaboration.
The project symbolizes expanding cooperation in the hydropower and energy sector.
