No matter where you travel in India, your car remains registered and valid rather than becoming mired in RTO paperwork with each shift.
What is unique about BH plates?
Applicable throughout India: Your license plate remains valid if you move to any state.
No need for duplicate paperwork: Don't keep going back to the RTO to re-register.
Simpler tracking: The BH plate makes it easier for authorities to find the owner of your car if it is misplaced or involved in an accident.
Cleaner, more consistent system: It increases process transparency and lowers the likelihood of repeat registrations.
The operation of the road tax
Your road tax is computed for 14 years up front when you receive a BH license plate. Then you simply renew it every year. The rate is determined by the cost of your car:
For autos under Rs 10 lakh, 8%
10% for cars costing between Rs 10 and Rs 20 lakh
12% for cars costing more than Rs 20 lakh
(The proportion may differ somewhat according on whether your vehicle is powered by electricity, diesel, or gasoline.)
