Training AI models and tools requires more high-end computing resources. These resources are mainly GPUs (graphics processing units), which are capable of performing rapid calculations on large data sets. For example, GPUs are used to train generative AI models.
However, GPUs are expensive and can be difficult for small startups to purchase. In view of this, the Common Compute Portal has been launched. Which provides the facility of sharing these GPUs. Through this, indian startups and researchers can create AI models and tools without investing much.
Indigenous development of AI models in India
Development of AI is an expensive and difficult task, especially when it comes to foundational models. These models are the backbone of AI tools and applications and require a lot of investment and technical expertise to create them. The indian government is well aware of this and is therefore taking steps to promote indigenous development of foundational AI models.
Under this, the india AI Mission has started a special initiative in which indian startups and companies have been given the opportunity to send applications to create these models. The result of this initiative was that 67 applications have been received, which proves that indian companies are now fully prepared to make their mark in the field of AI.
