Vijay has been ordered by the tamil Nadu Commercial Tax Department to pay entry tax on a luxury car that he brought from the US in 2005 and is worth Rs 63 lakh. Vijay brought a case to the high court challenging the entry tax, and the court ruled that states have the right to levy entry tax. Actor Vijay subsequently paid an entry tax of 7 lakh 98 thousand 75 rupees in september 2021. However, the Commercial Tax Department mandated in december 2021 that a penalty for the interim period of non-payment of tax be paid in the amount of 30 lakh 23 thousand 609 rupees.
Vijay argued that the fee should only be computed by 2 percent each month starting from the time the car was imported and as a result filed a complaint against the case at the chennai high court after the actor was fined for paying 400 percent of the penalty. The chennai high court, however, has dismissed the case with its most recent decision, and it appears that Vijay won't be penalised because he allegedly paid the entry tax before the deadline.
