This is a situation that many people encounter: working on an H1B, applying for a marriage-based green card, and then receiving that lovely new EAD card.  Can you leave your H1B employment and work somewhere else on your EAD? That is, of course, the question. Yes, in theory.  You can work for any employer in the united states with the EAD that comes with your I-485 (Adjustment of Status), not just your current H1B sponsor.  That's the independence it provides.

Nevertheless, the catch is that you don't have to just because you might.  especially when you're just starting the green card application process.  You stated that december 2024 is your top priority date.  You are in "adjustment of status"—not quite a green card holder yet—because your I-485 is still pending.  On the basis of your EAD, you are free to change jobs and lose your H1B status.  Your awaiting green card is now your only source of support.

You cannot rely on H1B if your green card application is delayed or encounters issues of any kind, including an RFE, denial, or a hitch in your marriage-based application.  That safety net disappears.  Some prefer to stay on H1B until the green card is fully authorized.  Others use the EAD nonetheless, especially if they have a better opportunity if a work change is urgent.

Although it's a personal choice, there is some risk involved.  Staying on H1B offers a larger backup if immigration security and job stability are more crucial.  EAD gives you the freedom to relocate if you want more flexibility or better opportunities.  This is one of those ambiguous immigration situations where there isn't a single right answer, simply a variety of paths with varying risks.
