instagram has now officially started supporting photos with 3:4 aspect ratio. Usually, most smartphone cameras click photos in this ratio. Now users will not need to crop photos before uploading them. Earlier, instagram only supported photos with 5:4 and 1:1 ratio. Now whether you upload a single photo or add it to a carousel (post with multiple photos together), the photo taken in 3:4 ratio on instagram will appear completely in the same format as it was taken from the camera.

Old formats will also be available along with 3:4

instagram head Adam Mosseri gave information about this update by posting on the Threads app. He wrote, "Now if you upload a photo with 3:4 ratio, it will appear exactly as you took it." He told that instagram now supports the same format which is by default in most smartphone cameras.

It was also confirmed on Instagram's Creator Broadcast Channel that this support will apply to both single photos and photo carousels. However, those who still want to upload photos in 4:5 or 1:1 (square) format can do so. But if you take photos from a smartphone without changing the settings, they may have to crop to the older format.

A screenshot shared on the channel also shows what a 3:4 ratio photo will look like on Instagram. On one side is a smaller photo cropped to 4:5, while on the other side the same photo is shown in 3:4 ratio with a higher height, making more details visible.

Recent instagram Features

Last month, instagram launched a new Edits app that allows editing videos on smartphones. This app has been introduced specifically to compete with ByteDance's CapCut app. With the help of this app, users can edit videos without watermark and can also share them on other apps.

Apart from this, instagram has also recently introduced a Blend feature that recommends users their favorite reels in the message section. This feature was in testing for about a year and is now available only for invite-only users. The Blend feature shows a customized reels feed based on the user's instagram activity. This feature is currently available on both iOS and Android.
