Reportedly West bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on thursday announced an increase in the salary of MLAs. While increasing the salary of MLAs by Rs 40 thousand per month, mamta Banerjee said in the

assembly that no amendment has been made in my salary, because I am not taking any kind of salary for a long

time. He said, "The salary of the MLAs of the West bengal Legislative assembly is very low as compared to

other states. Therefore, it has been decided that his salary will be increased by Rs 40,000 per month.

Salaries of cabinet and state ministers also increased

Apart from this, mamta Banerjee has increased the salary of cabinet ministers and ministers of state. Now the

monthly salary of state ministers has been increased from Rs 10,900 to Rs 50,900. At the same time, in the case

of cabinet ministers, this amount has been increased from Rs 11,000 to Rs 51,000. Apart from the monthly

salary, other additional allowances which cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State and MLAs are entitled to receive

will remain the same.

How much will be the total salary?

A state government official said, this would mean that the actual monthly emoluments, including salary and

allowances, received by the MLAs would now increase from the current rate of Rs 81,000 per month to Rs 1.21

lakh. Similarly, from now on the actual monthly pay of the ministers will increase from Rs 1.10 lakh per month

to about Rs 1.50 lakh per month.

Increase due to this

Announcing the increased salaries in the state assembly on thursday, the chief minister said that the decision to

increase the salaries has been taken in view of the fact that the salaries of MLAs in West bengal are much lower

than the salaries of MLAs in other states. However, political observers believe that this increased salary for

ministers and MLAs will further harass the state government employees. They have been demanding increased

dearness allowance and arrears at par with central government employees for a long time.
