
Rajinikanth, who was working as a bus conductor in Bengaluru, made his debut in cinema with the film apoorva Raagangal directed by K. Balachander. He was addicted to alcohol in his early days. Apart from that, Rajini had a lot of cigarette habits. Rajinikanth has told in an old interview why he gave up alcohol. He said: “When I acted in the film apoorva Ragangal, I struggled to act. Then nagesh called me and said that shivaji Rao's acting was nothing big. Just do what balachander does. He said that I have been acting like that for so many years. I did as he said and after that acting was very easy. Balachander's first disciple was Nagesh.
