Social media responses to Thunderbolts*, which opens in theaters on Thursday, have been extremely positive so far. tv commercials have already praised the film as the best MCU film since Avengers: Endgame.  Now that the initial reviews have been counted, how is Thunderbolts* doing on Rotten Tomatoes? It's all too frequent for those X postings full of adjectives to not match the final reviews.

Based on 89 reviews, Thunderbolts* currently has an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.  Consequently, the film has been designated as "Certified Fresh." Thunderbolts* is currently in the same ballpark as Avengers: Infinity war (85%), doctor Strange (89%), Captain America: Civil war (90%), and Spider-Man: Far From home (91%), when compared to previous MCU films.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Marvel Studios has had a difficult few years.  It used to be a guarantee that an MCU film would receive a "Certified Fresh" rating, but the Multiverse Saga has produced three "Rotten" films: Captain America: Brave New World, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Eternals.

Even while review aggregators have been less popular among moviegoers in recent years, studios still use them, and a new release's opening weekend can be severely damaged by a dreaded green splat.  But as Sinners has shown us recently, a film may still make a lot of money even if it receives positive reviews.

It will be intriguing to observe how Thunderbolts* performs and whether this soundtrack will cause the film to surpass box office projections.  Since these characters aren't the most well-known (especially to non-fans), a high score like this will be really helpful, especially if it results in favorable word-of-mouth.
