A Muslim taxi driver allegedly threatened to kill a Hindu girl from kolkata on May 9, 2025, for listening to the Hanuman Chalisa on her phone. This was a horrifying instance of religious bigotry.
The 'Indrive' app was used to arrange a regular taxi journey when the incident happened. What began as a routine trip home swiftly turned into a nightmare. The woman claims that a clip of the Hanuman Chalisa started playing while she was idly browsing social media. Muhammad Irfan, the cab driver, allegedly became enraged and demanded that she quickly turn off the recording.

Things got dangerously out of hand when the girl refused.  In a terrifying turn of events, Irfan allegedly threatened to kill her and tried to steer the automobile to an unidentified area, purportedly his own neighborhood.  The youngster says she was warned that if she didn't comply, she wouldn't survive.  She somehow escaped after realizing how dangerous things were, and she hurried to the Shakespeare Sarani police station to lodge a formal report.

In a prompt response, kolkata Police detained Muhammad Irfan and began an inquiry. Although the incident has generated internet outrage and raised major concerns about passenger safety, religious intolerance, and the silence of app-based taxi businesses, the fast action has been applauded.

Notably, Indrive has not yet released a statement on the incident. This silence has not gone unnoticed by online users, many of whom are now demanding more stringent driver vetting protocols. Others are warning female users of ride-hailing applications to use caution, particularly at night.

It is impossible to overlook the wider ramifications of this startling episode as the investigation progresses.  Is it now illegal to listen to devotional music in public in a nation that takes pride in its diversity?  Does it make one a target, or worse?
