Anuparna Roy’s recognition in the Orizzonti competition is a milestone for indian cinema. Her debut feature, Songs of Forgotten Trees, earned her the Best director award, making her the first indian woman to win in this category She dedicated her win to women who have been silenced, describing the honor as “surreal”
